Commentary:
Francois-Marius Granet (1775-1849) did a lot of watercolor work and generally signed them in ink. Around the early part of the 19th century, Granet took an interest in interior scenes of convents and churches. Examples can be found at Live Auctioneers and artnet. Many of his works depict staircases or hallways, a more mysterious side of religious life than most would expect. JM
