Commentary:
“The signature or inscription reads more closely as “B.N.Brown.” A comparison of the signature of Bolton Brown as it appears on the lithographs he printed for George Bellows is agreeably similar.

Bolton Brown is best known for the influence he had on the work of George Bellows. Brown was born in Zena, New York on November 27, 1865, and died in Dresden, New York, September 15, 1936. Brown abandoned his career in painting at mid-life to devote his energies to becoming a master lithographer. He had been a teacher at Stanford University. Brown is also known for his book, Lithography for Artists.” (Alasko)
