Commentary:
The inscription suggests that sudy in the direction of Simone Gionima (c. 1655-1730) or his son Antonio (1697-1732) might yield a more satisfying attribution. This drawing also has some affinity with earlier works and may be a copyist’s attempt after Lodovico Cardi [Il Cigoli] (Castelvecchio di Cigoli 1159 – Rome 1613).
